About this event

  • 1 hour 30 minutes

Have you ever wondered what it's like at the Geographic South Pole, but hate the cold and absence of everyday comforts?

Enjoy the thrills, chills, and challenges from your armchair!

Our presenter, Sandra Kolb, shares her two austral summers working at the Amundsen-Scott South Pole Research Station in Antarctica. Few people can or want to work in Antarctica. Even fewer, especially women, have had the opportunity to work at the Amundsen-Scott South Pole Research Station. Now you can gain the benefits second-hand while staying warm!

During your time with Sandra, you will:

  • Gain greater knowledge and appreciation of the continent of Antarctica
  • Observe the chill of Operation Deep Freeze
  • Apprehend that adaptation, teamwork, and positive attitudes are choices for success and
    survival
  • Learn about the life and work at the Amundsen-Scott South Pole Station

Sandra’s presentation features information from her experiences, interactive dialogue, and her video, "Living at the Bottom of the World, which includes the historic South Pole Station dome and camp. She and her husband, Lester, filmed and scripted the material above and beyond their 7-day work weeks. No glossy production by professionals on a quick trip only, the video is their culmination of fascinating experiences.

Join us as Sandra takes us along to the bottom of the world!

** If this event is sold out, email sandra@sandrakolb.com, let her know you would like to attend, and she will email you the Zoom link directly.

Sandra Kolb presents speeches and workshops to diverse audiences regardless of their age or stage in life’s journey. She is a 1999 recipient of the Antarctica Service Medal of the United States of America. While employed in Information Systems for an Antarctic support agency for the United States of American National Science Foundation (NSF), Sandra is also a member of the privileged group, Teachers Experiencing Antarctica and the Arctic (TEA).

In addition to her job, Sandra promoted education and NSF goodwill through her journals submitted live from Antarctica. You will find them on the Armada Project website http://armadaproject.org/tea/tea_kolbfrontpage.html#calendar .
